Metal Fence Panels for Metro Transit Hub

The Challenge: A Fully Integrated Design Across Multiple Elements
At the Highway 610 & Noble Parkway Park & Ride, a key Metro Transit hub serving commuters into Minneapolis, the project required a system of metal fence panels that could clearly define the parking lot boundaries.
Design requirements called for securing a parking lot and garage with over 1,000 spaces while still fitting naturally into the surrounding environment. Two distinct site conditions shaped the fence layout: 250 linear feet running along a sidewalk at the edge of the lot, and another 215 linear feet set back within a grassy buffer before meeting the road. Matching trash enclosures were also included as part of the scope.
As one of Metro Transit’s most sustainable facilities, the site features solar-powered panels, EV charging stations, and energy-efficient lighting. The architect aimed for the fencing to reflect the same forward-thinking approach, incorporating custom metal fence panels that add visual interest without overwhelming the space.
The Solution: Custom Metal Fence Panels
A highly customized aluminum fencing system was developed for two key areas of the facility. Snow Kreilich Architects spec’d the StellarCraft Nebula Perforated Fence to serve as the boundary markers for the parking lot.
Each panel measures 4’ 11 ¾” long by 2’ 3 ¼” high and is fabricated from 3/16″ 5052 aluminum. A standard ¼” x ¼” square perforated pattern with 24.2% open area served as the design foundation. From there, Snow Kreilich Architects collaborated with StellarCraft to introduce custom design elements that give the fence its unique character. A sloping solid line runs diagonally across each panel, intersected about two-thirds of the way through by a curved vertical band. By alternating two variations of this pattern, the fence becomes a visually dynamic boundary to the parking lot perimeter.
Each panel is secured to a post using stainless steel self-tapping screws. The metal fence panels were thoughtfully detailed with a formed 90-degree top edge that extends two inches to wrap over and conceal the posts. The perforation pattern continues seamlessly across this edge, maintaining a clean, uninterrupted look from the face of the panel to the top.
The finish palette was selected to balance longevity with design intent. Posts were painted Tricorn Black (Sherwin-Williams 6258), while the panels feature a Class 1 clear anodized finish that preserves the natural aluminum appearance and enhances corrosion resistance.
To complete the installation, two custom trash enclosures were designed to match the fencing system, creating a cohesive and polished look across the entire site.
The Result: A Functional Boundary to Enhances the Commuter Experience
StellarCraft assisted in a successful replacement of the surface lot and parking garage at the Highway 610 and Noble Parkway Metro Transit Park & Ride facility. The three story ramp houses up to 500 vehicles while the surface lot accommodates another 500 stalls. StellarCraft’s completed Nebula Perforated Fence provides the necessary boundary security required for a smooth and safe public transportation experience for all Metro Transit’s commuters.
The facility has been recognized by many publications and awards for its forward-thinking design elements.
