The City of Kalamazoo Michigan undertook an $11.2 million renovation project to modernize the city’s Arthur Washington Jr. Crosstown Center. Approximately 43,250 square feet of renovations were made to the County Courts and Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety’s Station 1.
These renovations consolidated several City departments into one location, including Community Planning & Economic Development, Information Technology, and Public Safety records. Intersect Architects played a main role in redesigning the public lobby space, customer service areas, business center, and Public Safety areas to make it a more functional environment for on-duty personnel.
As part of the Arthur Washington Jr. Crosstown Center renovation in Kalamazoo, Michigan, StellarCraft designed and fabricated a custom Nebula Perforated Aluminum Fence system to update the facility’s perimeter security and architectural appearance.
The project included replacing sections of the existing black picket fence with 44 aluminum fence panels, each measuring 3½ feet wide and 5½ feet tall. The panels feature a standard square perforation pattern and a black AAMA 2605 finish. Spanning two sections approximately 122 feet and 21 feet long, the new fencing was installed using baseplates anchored to concrete with screws.
An important part of the design was integrating the new perforated fencing with the facility’s existing security infrastructure. The secure pedestrian gate and access control area required modifications to retain select picket fence elements while incorporating the Nebula panels into the surrounding perimeter.
